The matriculation fees in Musikene follow the system of credits established in universities. 240 ECTS credits divided into 4 academic years of 60 each.

GRANTS
Grants exclusively for Bachelor students:
  • AIE: The Comisión de Fondo Asistencial y Cultural de la AIE (Artistas, Intérpretes o Ejecutantes), within its annual offer of highly specialised grants, awards two grants of 3,000 euros each for Musikene students in the specialisations of Classical and Jazz performance.
  • Igartza Musika: The Town Council of Beasain will award a grant of 2,000 euros to a student registered in Bachelor’s Degree (4th Grade – Classical and Jazz performance) at Musikene selected by a panel created expressly for the purpose. The selection will be made in autumn.

 

Grants of a general nature:
  • Basque Government: students residing in the Basque Autonomous Community are eligible to apply for grants awarded annually by the Basque Government for university and other higher-level studies.
  • Ministry of Education: spanish students residing outside of the Basque Autonomous Community are eligible to apply for grants of a general nature offered every year by the Ministry of Education. These grants are for students enrolled in post-compulsory studies.

FAQ: DEGREE AND ORGANISATION

WHAT IS THE VALIDITY OF THE BACHELOR’S DEGREE IN HIGHER ARTISTIC EDUCATION IN MUSIC?

The Bachelor’s Degree in Higher Artistic Education in Music has to all extents and purposes the same validity as a university degree, as established by the Organic Law 2/2006 (LOMLOE):

“Students who have passed higher studies in Music or Dance shall be awarded the Qualification of Degree in Higher Arts Education in Music or Dance in the appropriate speciality , which shall be equivalent, for all intents and purposes, to a university degree. If the applicable regulations require the possession of a university degree, it shall be understood that this requirement is met by whomsoever is in possession of the Qualification of Degree in Higher Arts Education in Music or Dance.”

Also, the Law on Artistic Education 1/2024 of 7 June, in Article 63 establishes that the official qualifications for higher arts education shall be recognised by Spain and will be valid throughout Spain.

HOW MANY ACADEMIC YEARS CORRESPOND TO EACH SPECIALITY?

Bachelor’s Degree curriculum in all specialities comprise 240 ECTS credits, spread out over 4 academic years of 60 ECTS each.

WHERE AND WHEN ARE THE ENTRANCE EXAMS FOR BACHELOR’S DEGREE CARRIED OUT?

Bachelor’s Degree entrance exams are in-person at Musikene in June. All information about the registration process, requirements, structure of the examinations and schedule can be seen at the Musikene website.

CAN STUDENTS CHOOSE THEIR PRINCIPAL INSTRUMENT PROFESSOR (INTERPRETATION SPECIALITY)?

In the case of speciality professors (Interpretation), freshmen choose their Principal Instrument professor by according to entrance examination results ranking. Said request only takes place for those instruments with more than one speciality professor.

AS A STUDENT AT MUSIKENE, WILL I HAVE ACCESS TO SPACES AT THE SCHOOL TO PRACTICE?

Yes. Bachelor’s Degree students have access to the school’s classrooms and booths. To smooth the handling of booking spaces, students are given access to the platform Erreserbak, making booking online swift and easy.

CAN ONE STUDY TWO SPECIALITIES SIMULTANEOUSLY?

Yes, providing the following conditions are met:

  1. The student has finished at least the first year of one of the specialities he/she wishes to study.
  2. The student has passed the entrance examinations corresponding to both specialities and has been given a place for the academic year in which he/she begins each speciality.
IF I HAVE ALREADY BEGUN BACHELOR’S STUDIES, DOES MUSIKENE RECOGNISE MY SUBJECT CREDITS?

Yes, in the case of academic record transfers and other official degree or equivalent studies, providing the number of credits and the contents of the subject are appropriate to the subject recognised in Musikene. This will not apply when the student gains entrance via Musikene entrance examinations to study the same academic content.

HOW MANY CHANCES DO I HAVE TO PASS THE SUBJECTS IN THE BACHELOR’S DEGREE IN ARTISTIC EDUCATION?

Students shall have a maximum of four chances to pass each subject and a maximum of two chances to pass the end-of-degree project.

In both cases, Musikene shall be able to authorise, at the student’s request, in exceptional circumstances, and for duly justified reasons, a new examination sitting.

IS ATTENDANCE COMPULSORY?

Teaching is in-person and compulsory to aid satisfactory evaluation of the subjects.

WHAT LANGUAGE(S) ARE LESSONS GIVEN IN?

Musikene’s official teaching languages are Spanish and Basque, although group subject lessons are mainly given in Spanish. The working language of each individual subject is chosen, in an unforced manner, between professors and students.

Each academic year, Musikene offers Basque and Spanish courses for visiting foreign student s who request them.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO STUDY AT MUSIKENE?

Musikene is a public school subsidised by the Basque Government. Complete registration costs €1,588.20 (60 ECTS at €26.47 per credit).

WHEN AND HOW IS PAID THE REGISTRATION FEE?

A first payment will be made (currently €500) at the time of registration (amount to be specified in the registration contract). You can pay the rest of the registration fee in one or two instalments; the first in mid-November, and the second one in mid-February, if the choice is two instalments.
