FAQ: MASTER’S DEGREE AND ORGANIZATION
WHAT IS THE VALIDITY OF THE OFFICIAL MASTER'S DEGREES OFFERED BY MUSIKENE?
The Masters in Artistic Education has for all purposes the same validity as a university Master’s degree. This is stated in article 12 of the Law of Artistic Education 1/2024 of June 7th (Ley de Enseñanzas Artísticas 1/2024 del 7 de junio).
WHAT VALIDITY DO MUSIKENE'S MASTER'S DEGREES HAVE IN THE PROCESSES OF ACCESS TO PUBLIC EMPLOYMENT?
The Masters offered by Musikene are official and, therefore, are valid in the merit scale for competitive examinations or transfer competitions. In the case of competitive examinations for professorships in Conservatories, being in possession of an official master’s degree that contains ECTS for research is an indispensable requirement. All Musikene’s master’s degrees have ECTS for research.
DO MUSIKENE'S MASTER'S DEGREES ALLOW ACCESS TO DOCTORAL STUDIES?
Yes, Musikene’s Master’s syllabus contains research credits and allows access to future doctoral studies.
WHAT IS THE DURATION OF EACH MASTER'S DEGREE?
There are two types of Masters according to the duration and ECTS credits. Regardless of this, they are all official and approved by the Ministry of Education.
- Official Masters of one academic year (60 ECTS credits)
- Official Masters of two academic years (120 ECTS credits)
Partial enrollment per academic year is possible in all Master’s programs, so if you wish, you can accommodate your Master’s studies to your availability and extend your stay at Musikene.
WHERE ARE THEY HELD AND WHAT IS THE SCHEDULE FOR THE MASTER’S ENTRANCE EXAMS?
The Master’s entrance exams are held online. Every year, two exams are organized for the following academic year: one in March and the other in June. All the information about registration deadlines, requirements, structure of the exams and calendar can be consulted on the web page of each master’s degree.
CAN STUDENTS CHOOSE THEIR SPECIALITY PROFESSOR?
In the case of speciality professors (Performance, Performance-Jazz and Orchestral Studies Masters), freshmen choose their professor by according to entrance examination results ranking. Said request only takes place for those instruments with more than one speciality professor.
AS A STUDENT AT MUSIKENE, WILL I HAVE ACCESS TO SPACES AT THE SCHOOL TO PRACTICE?
Yes. Master’s Degree students have access to the school’s classrooms and booths. To smooth the handling of booking spaces, students are given access to the platform Erreserbak, making booking online swift and easy.
IF I HAVE ALREADY TAKEN ANOTHER MASTER’S DEGREE, DOES MUSIKENE RECOGNIZE SUBJECT CREDITS?
Yes, as long as the number of credits and the contents of the course for which the recognition is requested correspond to the analogous course at Musikene.
HOW MANY CHANCES DO I HAVE TO PASS THE SUBJECTS IN THE MASTER’S DEGREE?
Students shall have a maximum of four chances to pass each subject. Musikene shall be able to authorise, at the student’s request, in exceptional circumstances, and for duly justified reasons, a new examination sitting.
WHAT LANGUAGE(S) ARE LESSONS GIVEN IN?
Musikene’s official teaching languages are Spanish and Basque, although group subject lessons are mainly given in Spanish. The working language of each individual subject is chosen, in an unforced manner, between professors and students.
Each academic year, Musikene offers free Basque and Spanish courses for visiting foreign student who request them, in addition to advantageous prices for English and German courses.
