Registration fees must also be paid for each of the specialities. In the admission field, the speciality for which you are applying must be specified in each case.

IS IT COMPULSORY TO SIT THE ENTRANCE EXAMINATION WITH ACCOMPANIMENT?

Works that require it must be performed with accompaniment and candidates may bring their own partner.

Musikene will provide piano accompanists for those candidates who expressly request it in the application form and pay the corresponding fee.

In the case of Jazz Performance, the accompaniment will be with pre-recorded backing track(s) or with partners provided by the candidate him/herself.

HOW MUCH DOES THE ACCOMPANIMENT PROVIDED BY THE CENTRE COST?

Applicants may ask Musikene to provide them with a piano accompanist. In this case, 90 euros must be paid during the registration period. The fee includes accompaniment during the entrance exam and a one-hour rehearsal beforehand, at a time agreed by both parties.

IN THE CASE OF THE PEDAGOGY SPECIALITY, WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO TAKE PART B OF THE ENTRANCE EXAMS (INTERPRETATION) WITH ONE INSTRUMENT OR ANOTHER?

At Musikene, the Pedagogy syllabus includes the subject “Instrument” during the four years of the Bachelor’s Degree. If admitted, students in this speciality must register for this subject with the instrument (or voice in the case of singing) with which they have taken the entrance exam.

CAN I TAKE PART B OF THE ACCESS EXAMS FOR PEDAGOGY WITH ANY INSTRUMENT?

The instrument to be used for Part B of the Pedagogy Entrance Exams must be one of those offered by Musikene for the 2024-2025 academic year, as listed below: Accordion, Harp, Singing, Clarinet, Double Bass, Bassoon, Flute, Guitar, Jazz (Electric Bass, Drums, Singing, Double Bass, Guitar, Piano, Saxophone, Trombone and Trumpet), Oboe, Organ, Percussion, Piano, Saxophone, Trombone, Horn, Trumpet, Tuba, Txistu, Viola, Violin and Cello.

IF I CANCEL MY REGISTRATION FOR THE ENTRANCE EXAMS, WILL MUSIKENE REFUND THE REGISTRATION FEE?

The request for cancellation of registration for the Entrance Exams will in no case give rise to the right to a refund of the fees paid for this item.

In the case of the amounts paid for accompaniment (piano accompanist), the deadline for requesting the refund of the fee is 1 June 2024.

IS IT COMPULSORY TO HOLD THE PROFESSIONAL MUSIC CERTIFICATE TO SIT THE MUSIKENE ENTRANCE EXAMS?

No, it is optional. Once the registration period has ended, all those admitted to the entrance exams will receive an email from pruebas.acceso@musikene.eus so that those who wish to do so can provide their grade point average. One form must be completed for each speciality for which you are applying. The deadline for this will be at 13:00 hrs of 12 June 2024.

In each call for the entrance exams, the grade point average certificate must be provided, regardless of whether it has been provided in previous calls.

IS IT NECESSARY TO HAVE PASSED THE BACCALAUREATE TO TAKE HIGHER MUSIC STUDIES?

The Baccalaureate certificate or, failing that, proof of having applied for it, must be presented at the time of matriculation. It is not essential to present it on the day of the entrance exams.

If you do not have the Baccalaureate, the regulations stipulate that you can gain access by passing the university entrance exam for the over 25s, the common part of the entrance exam for Advanced Vocational Training courses or by holding a Higher Qualification in Higher Arts Education, a university degree or a Higher Technician qualification.

Those who meet the age requirements established and have passed the test of maturity that accredits that they have maturity in relation to the objectives of the Baccalaureate and the knowledge, skills and aptitudes necessary to successfully complete the corresponding studies may also be admitted to Higher Arts Education in music. The minimum age for access to higher studies in music or dance shall be sixteen years of age, as established by Organic Law 2/2006, of 3 May, on Education, modified by Organic Law 3/2020, of 29 December, Article 69.5.

This exam is held in all the Autonomous Communities. In the case of the Autonomous Community of the Basque Country, the registration period for the maturity test will be from 26 February to 22 March 2024.

I HAVE A FOREIGN BACCALAUREATE CERTIFICATE, DO I NEED TO HAVE IT OFFICIALLY RATIFIED?

It depends on the country of issue. In the case of holding a Higher Secondary Education qualification, diploma or studies or a Baccalaureate Certificate from educational systems of Member States of the European Union or other States with which international agreements applicable in this respect have been signed, on a reciprocal basis, it will not be necessary to have it officially ratified. (List of countries: Germany, Andorra, Austria, International Baccalaureate, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, China, Cyprus, Croatia, Denmark, European Schools, Slovakia, Slovenia, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Norway, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, United Kingdom, Romania, Sweden and Switzerland. In addition, International Baccalaureate qualifications or qualifications from European Schools).

Students from countries that are not on the list must have their foreign Baccalaureate Certificate officially ratified. The centre will conditionally admit students who can prove that they have submitted the corresponding application for official ratification while this is being resolved.

WHAT IS THE VALIDITY OF THE ENTRANCE EXAM PASSED?

Passing the Musikene entrance exam only entitles the student to matriculate in the academic year for which it has been taken. Consequently, in the event of passing the exam without obtaining the corresponding place and continuing to be interested in accessing these studies at Musikene, applicants must repeat the exam in its entirety in successive calls.

Furthermore, according to Article 5.6 of Royal Decree 631/2010, of 14 May: “Passing this specific exam will allow access to any of the centres in the State where these courses are taught, without prejudice to the availability of places in these centres”.

HOW DO I REQUEST A GRADE REVIEW OF MY ENTRANCE EXAM?

Requests for grade reviews received within three working days of the publication of the results will be processed. These requests must be duly argued and justified in writing, dated, and signed with a valid ID card, foreigner’s ID card or passport, addressed to “Subdirección de Ordenación Académica” and sent by email to reclamaciones@musikene.eus.

The grade review could lead to an upward or downward change in the initially assigned grade.

The following regulatory text is taken from the Resolution of 2 February 2024 of the Basque Government Director of Planning and Education Centres:

IMPORTANT

Under article 10, 1b, Royal Decree 631/2010 of 14 May, if records are transferred from one Spanish autonomous community to another to continue the same studies, all credits will be recognized.

Recognition of the subjects already taken at the school of origin will require payment of 25% of the cost of the corresponding credits for the recognized subject.

Transfer students from outside Spain: in addition to the above, at the time of registration students must provide a sworn translation into Spanish of their academic record.

Transfer students from outside the European Higher Education Area: No procedure has been established for Musikene to recognize studies from schools outside EHEA. Interested parties should request recognition of their higher level studies from the corresponding administration and submit validation at the time of registration. Musikene will then determine whether the transfer is viable. For more information: secretaria.academica@musikene.eus
